Essential Oils

For the second time in 3 weeks I was invited to a session about essential oils sourced and produced by doTERRA®️. It felt like a ‘sign’ for me to do something for myself. Anyone who has, or is starting a business will be well aware of the challenges that ensue, not including the rest of life’s hiccups. In my case, life currently revolves around managing hormone fluctuations. The cynic in me quietly suggested this recent exposure to essential oils was an early experience of the next new shiny thing about to take off. I shook off my scepticism, instead choosing to see this coincidence as another opportunity to learn, take personal responsibility for my health and promote a fellow business.

We were a small group, so various oils could be passed along more quickly and the information about each of them more readily absorbed. As the lemon oil did the rounds I learned for the first time that citrus essential oils were nature’s natural mood lifters. Previously I had only associated citrus fruit with cleansing, either inside or outside of the body and vitamin C.

I got comfortable and leaned in.

Cathrine Cook hosted the session and with her teaching background she easily engaged the class with personal case studies, to help us understand the benefits of essential oils without bashing the National Health Service. Cathrine saw the use of essential oils as an empowering tool, a way of regaining control of individual healthcare needs, which can at times feel out of our hands. Many people have experienced frustration at being redirected several times, or, receiving conflicting and subsequently, confusing information about their health.

There was no suggestion that essential oils should replace the modern medicine and technological methods currently used for serious conditions. However, the anecdotal evidence Cathrine provided, satisfied me that essential oils could help. Prevention is always better than cure.

The most surprising revelation I heard from both the sessions I attended, was that despite a marketplace full of essential oils, there is little or no legislation to ensure the authenticity. Only less than 5% of the oil is required to be present to be deemed 100% pure. Worse still the other remaining ingredients do not have to be listed. doTERRA’s ®️ approach to essential oils is more ethical. These are some of the key issues I picked up on:

  • Our bodies are not resistant to essential oils.
  • Emotional and physical needs are met with the use of essential oils.
  • Essential oils help support immune systems, often overlooked until they don’t work.
  • doTERRA®️ are one of the very few companies whose essential oils are 100% pure which means they can be applied directly to the skin or ingested internally.
  • doTERRA®️ work in partnership with the indigenous people of developing countries where its oils are sourced.

By the end of the session I had more questions. Cathrine was more than happy to explain in more detail about specific products from the range available.

This is a mere snapshot of the sessions I attended. There is no substitute for the invigorating aroma from a single drop of pure peppermint essential oil in the palm of your hand. It also has to be experienced to be believed, the refreshingly cooling effect from the same drop applied to the back of your neck.

  1. I love essential oils. I’ve been using them for over 20 years. Orange is my favorite mood lifter. I use one drop on the inside of my wrists. I love your writing and musings. Keep on progressing xx
